Somewhere in my brain, banana and peaches had been hiding in plain sight. Since I saw my son bite of a wedge of banana and my daughter Amy bite of a piece of peaches.


“Is that each one the kinds of honey you bought?” I had asked, post seeing her that she was eating a giant peach of the loaf. ”Yes, Dad, sorry,” she said.


The next day at lunch time, rather than purchasing two packs of almonds at the corner store, I visited the ‘Stop and Shop’ food store and selected two ripe but firm peaches and a cluster of four ripe, firm bananas.


Back to the car I examined below the seat and located a half-full bottle or any other bottle of water with which I washed the peaches. I set one peach on a clean napkin on the front passenger seat and held the opposite one, reexamining it for dents and soft spots, which I dislike in fruits.


I had satisfied, my teeth a little bit into it and took a piece of fresh and juicy peach. What a delicious, refreshing, slightly tangy flavor! The velvety feel of the skin made me want to carry the fruit a touch longer, but hunger was getting the higher of me.


Peaches are nutritious, with many vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. I do not think they’re given the respect they deserve among the fruit family.
